about

part of my project to write one song every week.

lyrics

after revelry in nashville
it's a quarter after three
doing pushups at the exxon
trying not to fall asleep
my body's cold with thunder
you say it's the caffeine
but i swear that this is different
this is the crack of prophecy

we're minutes from the comfort
of our extra-long twin beds
singing songs of west virginia
even though we've never been
and my friends they started fading
oh i tightened up my grip
i can feel something coming
i can hear the future rip

we were tried at our arrival
but his radio stepped in
there was talk of our survival
so he quickly let us in
half-awake, i turned the corner
and i left my friends behind
slowly dragging to my quarters
there was nothing on my mind
then a flood of flashlights pulled me
from a barely conscious crawl
"8:00 -- you'll be sorry."
