about
part of my attempt to write one song a week.
lyrics
well just the other day i was talking to a friend and
he said he was fine, but we say that all the time
in a miraculous moment of silence between the scrolling of our phones
he said he wondered what would become of him
and i said "boy, you're not alone"
from this degree to that one
from my job to yours
we all want to have money
but we don't want to be bored
so what's gonna happen when we walk out the door
with a degree in one hand and debt through the floor
god knows nothing ain't as scary
as a tick-tocking carrier of passing time
because as it goes, the second hand takes away
another chance of making a way down the narrow line
i turned to him and i said that everything would be okay
and he said "well, what's this about a narrow line, you say?"
and i said "well actually, i kinda just made that one up, today.
but it sure sounds good, don't it?"
and he said "hold on just a second, i think there's some truth in that
there's 7.29 billion of us here and we all got one path
so whoever said 'whatever is, is right' is wrong is off their tracks
because i might be scared out of my mind
but i sure ain't turning back
